Workshop Sessions

Online Writing Photography Workshops will commence March 2010.The sessions will be conducted fortnightly over 16 weeks, with a 9 day break over Easter (2-11th April), and finish on July 3rd, 2010. The workshops are structured so that students will have sufficient time to read the workshop material, complete the excercises (make their photographs & write about them)and obtain the support they need (email &/or phone), so they are ready to submit their completed work for comment each fortnight. The goal of the workshops, is for students to develop their ability to express themselves (visual, verbal and written) while developing a photo essay. Along the way, students will also learn some additional skills in photography, colour, photoshop, and printing.

Students will create a (with an emphasis on feelings and emotions) portrait shot list, which incorporates their public and private selves.

They will also learn how to capture a shot list of their community, edit it and sequence it, ready to present it as a photo essay. Using specific writing techniques, students will write about their community, discuss their writings, and incorporate them into a photo essay. They may then prepare this for printing.

` DREAMS `
Students will learn how to photograph their dreams. They will learn how to create a dream shot list, write about their dreams, and discuss them. They will create a collage about their dreams. Students will continue to use the skills they have developed in writing, editing and sequencing to construct a photo essay about their dreams.

` THE PHOTO ESSAY `
Throughout the workshop sessions, students will be introduced to the photo essay. They will learn how to make photographs and write about them using 'writing photography' skills. They learn will develop an 'eye', so they may best edit and sequence their photographs and text into a photo essay.

~ GOAL FOR PARTICIPATION~
The goal for students participation in the workshops, is that they are able to make photographs, write about them, discuss them, and learn how to structure them into a photo essay. They will be given specific exercises (writing and photography) so they may increase their ability to express themselves, verbally, visually, and emotionally, while increasing their writing and editing skills as they construct their photographs and photo essays.

Writing photography is used extensively in the USA and abroad to increase a person's sense of self, their socio-cultural identity and their ability to express themselves. Using photo based imagery and writing techniques encourages the emergence of a self reflexive artistic who has an increased awareness and visual knowledge of their world (relationships, family, friends, community & dreams).
